Dr. Steven Schoemer

Dr. Schoemer is a graduate of St. Lawrence University in New York, and received his Doctorate of Optometry from the State University of New York, State College of Optometry.  In 1983, while at Ft. Campbell, KY he held the position of Captain of the US Army, and was an Adjunct Professor in 1986 for Indiana and Southern Colleges of Optometry.  There, Dr. Schoemer was head of the 4th year optometry externship program.  He has been practicing optometry in Springfield since 1987.  Here at Vision Concepts, he specializes in primary care optometry, contact lenses, surgical co-management, and the treatment of ocular injuries and diseases.  He is a current member of the American Optometric Association, the Tennessee Optometric Association, President of the Robertson County Habitat for Humanity, and is past President of the Springifeld Lions Club.  He has also participated in vision mission trips to Haiti.  In his spare time, Dr. Schoemer enjoys bike riding and spending time with his wife.

Dr. Sarah Baldwin

Dr. Baldwin attended Western Kentucky University and completed her undergraduate work in 1999.  While at Western, she was a member of the research team in the Neuroscience Laboratory and participated in a ten week research seminar in molecular neurobiology.  In 2003, Dr. Baldwin graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern College of Optometry.  During optometry school, she was awarded the Wal-Mart Scholarship for Outstanding Clinical Skills in Optometry.  She was also able to attend a vision mission trip to Costa Rica.  She completed externships at LaPointe Health Clinic at Ft. Campbell, KY, and at Sites Vision Clinic in Clarksville, TN.  Here at Vision Concepts, Dr. Baldwin specializes in primary care optometry, contact lenses, surgical co-management, and the treatment of ocular infections and diseases.  In 2013, she was awarded the Reader’s Choice Award for Best Eye Doctor in Robertson County. She is a current member of the American Optometric Association, the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians, and Vision Source.  In her spare time, Dr. Baldwin enjoys spending time with her husband and two boys.

William Gates, M.D. – Visiting Ophthalmogist

Dr. William Gates, a native of Louisiana, attended Louisiana State University Medical School and completed his residency in opthalmology at Medical College of Georgia.
In 1993, he joined Summit Eye Associates and is active on the staff at Summit Surgery Center, Summit Medical Center, Northcrest Medical Center in Springfiled, TN and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine as Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology. Dr. Gates has been recognized by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery for his research and clinical applications of soft, flexible silicone cataract instruments. Other clinical interest include laser vision correction and vision correcting cataract lens implants, most recently the toric lens implant for astigmatism and the RESTORE implant for near vision problems.
